Lucky

I know she died months ago now, but I just found some photos and thought I would share her little story.

Little Cyclopse, as you were known, because of your one little eye, even of which gave you very little vision. No one knows why you had your other eye removed... Your previous owner gave a very non descript explanation of why it came out but when you got the the RSPCA, you were severely underweight, with infected stitches for your eye, and one of the most terrified piggies I have ever met.

When Lucky's cagemate Chloe passed away, we came to the RSPCA centre to introduce you both. On the same day, we ended up taking two piggies home from the centre, making three in total. You and 'Scrubs', your little teddy piggie friend, couldn't resist following Lucky around the trial room, and sharing a single lettuce leaf.

Sadly, Scrubs didn't survive very long, as she had several problems to do with the respiratory tract and a weak heart. We all missed her terribly when she went, especially you and Lucky.

A couple of months later Cyclopse, you were like a changed pig. Clearly the boss of Lucky! It was you who inspected the food first, you who was brave enough to venture out of new places first, and you who took control of the tunnel in the cage!

You were never a very large piggie, but after 2 years of being with us, we noticed you were losing weight, rapidly. A tumour in your tummy, the vet said. Nothing could be done. So we monitored your weight, and made sure that you were never in any pain.

You kept on fighting, right until the very end. You never stopped eating heartily and excitedly, but still, the weight came away. When we picked you up for a cuddle, we could feel every bone in your body.

You survived for about three months after the diagnosis from the vet, and your weight loss had started to slow down. I had hoped that there was a chance for you still, I wanted you to get better.

But when you started stumbling, I knew your time was nearly up. It broke my heart, Cyclopse, to see you stumbling over the hay even when just walking to the other side of the cage. I knew it wouldn't be long, and my heart broke. I wish there was something more I could have done for you, Cyclopse, to keep you here with us longer.

I still miss you Cyclopse, and all your little quirks. The way you used to run into things, like the run.. And flowers that were bent over the grass because you couldn't see them. Or the way you used to rumble, to let Lucky know who was boss.

You'll always have a special place in my heart, Cyclopse, you and all my other piggies in the sky. You were a special piggie, and one who will never be forgotten.

Rest in Peace, my little baby Cyclopse. I hope we gave you a chance to feel what love is, to experience a safe, happy and loving home. I love you, and I miss you so 8... xxxxxx
