Hi all.

I took Watson to the vet on Saturday with a cyst just below his chin. The vet pierced it with a needle to drain it. Fluid was clear and it continued to drain at home.

Roll on to today and the cyst is a lot smaller but still leaking.

Watson has lost weight and is down to 754g (although he has always been small, just not that small - he averages 850 - 950).

His poo is also a lot smaller indicating potential dehydration.

He is eating and drinking normally, and he just took down two thirds of a pack of recovery.

I intend on taking him back to the vet tomorrow but was wondering if anyone had any other advice. The vet did not seem overly concerned at the weekend but its whether there is an underlying condition... I'm also not sure the cyst should still be leaking 2 days later.

Thanks!

I think it can take a while until it is fully drained but I don't have that much experience of cysts. Was it definitely a cyst and not an abscess?

According to the vet it was a cyst but am back there now waiting. Off his veg this morning too!

Poor boy. Hope the vet can help. If it turns out to be an abscess he will need an antibiotic too and the best one for abscesses is Zithromax.

Thanks. Vet was stumped to be honest. Given him antibiotics and anti inflammatory and have to take him back tomorrow. If no better they are suggesting the exotics vet in andover. :-(

What antibiotics have you been given? was it by injection?

Yes by injection. Not sure what type. Frustrating as the vet who is great with gps is still on maternity leave until mid November.

It may be worth your vet discussing it with the vet in Andover, I think it is John Chitty.

Thanks - Watson went to Andover where they were very knowledgeable, but sadly he didn't make it. Looks like it was a heart problem.
