I have a guinea pig we rescued. We are not for sure how old he is,our vet agrees with us that he is anywhere from 2-4 years old.Since we have had him,he has had 3 cysts on his chest drained. The vet has made him "droggy" and simply cut open the cysts and drained them, and has sent us home with anti biotics. On his last check up,the vet found another cyst. This one is deep inside his neck, next to his larnyx. She aspirated it with a needle to get a sample, and just said it contains many white blood cells, which I guess is bad...She said it can not be drained like the other ones because it is too deep,he has to be put under and have it surgically cut out.We had him on antibiotics to see if it would shrink it,but they did not work. When we first found it,it was the size of a pea.Two weeks later,it was the size of a marble, and now 2 weeks after that it is the size of 2 marbles.I am very concerned about having him completly put under for surgery. He is very happy and has no ill effects from this cyst.Is this really necessary to have it removed? What will happen to him if we just let it go? And should we get a second opinion as to if we can just have it drained some way?

Hello and welcome ot the forum, hopefully there will be the help you are looking for here.

This thread may have some useful info for you - particularly the post I put up this morning on behalf of Pebble, one of the forum most experienced members.

This is the link to the vet referred to in the thread, who I would highly recommend.
