Hi guys. My 3 year old has just been back to the vet for his third check up after I found a pea size lump in his throat area. He was on baytril with pro-biotic. Lump still there but still not causing him any problems. Vet says it isn't attached to anything which would make it more serious so we're just keeping an eye for now. It hasn't grown any further in the month he's had it.

Could it be just a benign cyst that will just stay there? I'm worried that it could cause problems later if we leave it there, but also agree with the vet not to operate unnecessarily if it's not bothering him.

Has anyone experienced anything similar or have some advice please?

TY x

My piggies have been prone to cysts. Most have burst of their own accord but several I had drained. The cysts were all on their body area so I dont have any experiencs of cysts around the throat area..Just make sure you check it daily if you can and if it gets any bigger or interferes with the piggys eating or drinking then you may have to consider having it removed. I'm sure others will post with their experiences. Alcesterpigs usually comes online about this time and has great advice to offer...

Fibroma, lipoma, sebaceous cyst are all possibilties. All of which are non-malignant, ie benign.
Unless they are getting very large I leave well alone and do not remove them
As you say, wait and observe.

Thanks guys. Yes I am checking it daily so not much more I can do then. There is no fluid in the cyst (vet tried twice to extract some but says it's just solid). I'm just glad that it doesn't seem to be anything more untoward.

Thanks :-)
