Hi all. Our lovely male Reeses had a cystotomy 5 days ago. We've had 2 females go through this and they were completely fine afterwards. Reeses isn't really eating any hay/pellets and he's on recovery food since yesterday. He's also on day 2 of emeprid. He is the most wiggliest piggy and I am really struggling to get the food into his mouth via syringe. I've tried from my finger, from a spoon, he's not having it and I feel awful 😞. With others, we've wrapped them up like a burrito, but he's just too wiggly. Any advice on how to feed him would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome

Sorry for the delay. We are all doing this for free in our own free time and are not always around so alerts can be pushed down.

I am very sorry. He's obviously having a bit of a bad reaction to his GA. :(

You can find some more ideas for how to get food into him with videos and pictures in this guide here: All About Syringe Feeding and Medicating Guinea Pigs with Videos and Pictures

Is he on any pain relief?

Hi, yes he's on pain relief. He seems to be doing much better today. He's had quite a bit of recovery food and has had a few small chomps of hay. He's drinking and behaviour wise, he's still his usual self. Thank you for the link, very useful ☺️

That is great news. I hope that his recovery continues from here.
Please monitor his weight by weighing first thing in the morning.
