I recently noticed the most enormous lump on my piggies back. One day I saw nothing.. Next like a golf ball. I took her to the vets immediately. In fairness I came away not really understanding what it is.... He didn't seem concerned and just gave me the smallest amount of metacam. My girl is fine in herself. She's eating and seems happy but I can't help but worry.

Hmm did they test the lump at all? Like take the end of a syringe to test what was inside the lump? Usually when a lump balloons up out of nowhere it will be an abscess which needs lancing and draining with antibiotics to help clear the infection. Was your vet particularly knowledgeable with piggies? I would perhaps look to see a cavy savvy vet for better answers

Vet didn't seem concerned or even bothered. Yes he pin pricked the lump. Gave me metacam then told me to return in a week. I'm worried sick. Lump has not gone down.my piggie seems happy. Not in pain but I'd like to know what happens next. Why wasn't it drained...... Will she have surgery.

I've been having her in my lap with a cool flannel and putting tiny bit of vaseline on it as it looked so sore and cracked. If it is a harmless cyst... What do they do. Why didn't he drain.... 🙄

Ooh that looks sore, I would recommend a visit with a different vet.Whereabouts are you located? We might be able to recommend a vet x

I'm calling a few more tomorrow. I'm in Gloucester. The vet that saw her is a cavvy and bunny guy but I was just fitted in as an extra so feel he didn't explain her outcome or what he saw when he pricked the lump ( mostly blood I think) which worries me more. 🙃 She's very happy in herself and actually likes the metacam... She opens her mouth second I put syringe by it so that's good. But I can't bear to see this hideous lump. I'm assuming she will need surgery regardless of what the lump is. I should have been told. I have a good friend who looks after my piggies when I'm away and she said speak to vets again if I'm not happy

He sent me home with enough metacam for possibly another day or so... She will be uncomfortable when that's run out so I'll get her seen somehow. X

I'm taking her to a different vets in Quedgeley where I live in Wednesday for a second opinion. I personally feel the vet I saw last week should have booked her straight back in for it to be drained at least. It can't be pleasant for her 🙄. She's getting lots of extra cuddles.
