I'm curious if cysts are a hereditary thing or are they related to some health issue that I can prevent somehow?

Our oldest sow, Jasmine, who is a little over 2 years old had a cyst surgically removed in June of this year. We spent over $210 on that alone. And now 5 months later she has two more cysts popping up, one of them is very close to where her last cyst that was removed was located. Our vet does not know if they are benign or not and of course we know that surgery is an option but I hate to keep doing surgeries over and over if they are possibly benign and if they are just going to keep popping up every time we have them removed. :(

Surgery right now for her is not an option at the moment since we have our newest rescued boar scheduled to be neutered on December 8th which is going to cost us about $233. I can't pay for two surgeries in the same month.

I really don't know what to do for Jasmine who seems to have two cysts popping up now. Any suggested good reading for cysts in guinea pigs? Neither of my other two guinea pigs have cysts and I'm starting to wonder if Jasmine is getting them because of some genetic factor or something. :...

Sebaceous cysts are very common in g. pigs, there is nothing you can do to prevent them occuring. They can be left alone, unless they get very large.
The chance of a seb. cyst showing a malignant tendency is very, very low.

Thank you. Her two newest cysts are still small but the one we had removed in June grew very large and did so very quickly. I will be keeping a close eye on her and monitoring her progress in the meantime.
