So little Mario is being neutered on Thursday, i'm excited but nervous at the same time.

I know quite a few people have had boars neutered on here, but Mario is my first. Does anyone have any experiences they could share, any top tips and helping him through his recovery? I have all my extra towels, pads and fleece stocked up ready to keep everything extra clean and sanitary while he heals, i'm on standby for any care he need's but it's always useful to get hints and tips from member's who've been through it before.

I'll keep updates going on this thread :)

Ooo, fingers crossed for Mario and calming vibes for you! As you probably saw on Thor's neutering thread, it is a nerve-wracking experience but Thor says he is glad that he will soon be able to meet his ladies in pigson rather than waggle his bottom at them through the bars!

All I can really say is don't be afraid to call the vet for advice in the days afterwards if you need to - if you feel something isn't right then it's best to get it checked out.

I changed the towels three times a day to make sure everything was tip-top clean and also bought some pet-safe baby wipes as things can get a little soggy and stinky if Mario doesn’t feel up to moving much.

Looking forward to hearing how it all goes!

I know just how you feel. I agonised for ages about having Dougal (in my Avatar picture) neutered, but after extensive searching didn't come up with any possible boars for dating with him, I just couldn't stand the thoughts of him being lonely, even though he could see and talk to the others. Our vet was brilliant, and was happy to just talk everything through with me before I made my decision (he has his own herd!). I was quite anxious about how long he had to stay at the vets (he went in first thing on the Monday morning and came home Tuesday evening), even though I had been told about this before hand, but on reflection I'm glad because he was quite chirpy when he came home. I think I was probably a bit obssessive about keeping his cage clean (I was almost sitting waiting for him to do something so that I could clean up!) but that might have helped his healing process as when he went for his check up a few days later I was told that his healing was better than text book!

It is a nerve-wracking time, but Dougal definitely seems to think that it was worth - he is the happiest piggie in the world now that he has Ida! :luv::luv:

Thankyou, both of you. I have my vets number on standby too and the emergency vet number. I am nervous but confident at the same time as my vets are fantastic and I know he'll be well take care of :)

The one tip I would say is be prepared to stay up into the early hours like I did with Edward,I also had to syringe feed him. It is nerve wracking but it really is worth it.:D

Thankyou :) I have some sterile syringes here too and I've been reading through other neutering posts. I don't sleep much anyway so staying up isn't a problem :)

Oh Yes, I have a herd of 6 lady pigs and the hope is that he will join them :)

D-day for Mario tomorrow. He wasn't too impressed with his first bath but at least I know now that the smudge on his nose is his colour and not dirt :P

Bwahahaha I won't forget Kell! I'll let Mario know his number one fan is waiting for news of him. He's gotten over his sulking from the bath now :)

I didn't see this thread until you tagged me :( some number one fan I am :( but I did remember he was going to have his little op tomorrow. Give him a snuggle and a chin rub from me please Ruth and I will be waiting and checking for news on how he's doing. Fingers crossed that it all goes smoothly and he recovers quickly. Glad to hear he's not sulking anymore, are you bathing your lovely ladies too? You will be there all night Hun lol x

Don't worry about it Kell, I think there was a glitch somewhere as I couldn't find the thread at first and had to route it out, took me ages I don't know what was going on. I'll give him the snuggles and chin rubs, he'll absolutely love them from his auntie Kell. I'm not bathing the ladies tonight no, I just wanted Mario to be all nice and clean for his surgery :)

D day! Thanks for all the support everyone I'll keep you updated :) xx
