well this evening we finished the 2 hutches, both measuring 7ft long by just under 2ft wide, and joined using a thick strong tube. swapped the bed area from the left side to the right on so they dont have to run through their bed area to get to the run/hutch side. so for some pics :))

original single hutch as it was.

main hutch, bed area 3.5ft long, separate nest boxes which they sleep in and jump on and leading through to food/drink main area

the run side, with full wire mesh front so like a covered weather proof run with toys and tunnels, and lots of hay to play in/eat

both together closed up

the tunnel we used to join them together, its a piece of strong plastic pipe, fitted using heating air vent covers without the facing on them.

all tucked up for the night, hutch snuggle we were given ages ago and use it to help protect the hutches from getting wet through the wire, and the fly screen dropped over the main hutch mesh side to help keep it warm in that side and also to help stop the rain getting in through the front.

sorry for all the pics, just well pleased with how its turned out. at the moment its housing the 2 sows, and in a few weeks boris will join them, as there is a chance they are expecting from when he broke into their run from his, its a good job its a nice size. if they dont have any babies (fingers crossed!) then they will more than likely stay as a trio and be spoilt rotten in all this room :)

Oooooo thats FABULOUS what an amazing idea, and an amazing amount of space! :)) lucky piggies :)

thank you all, we had to find a way to give them run space as i cant bend down easily due to joint problems, it had to be easy for me to be able to get into and clean etc. this was our best option as i personally dont like ramps and the other option was to put a ramp down and under the hutch and fence in the underneath. i much prefer this idea :))

ooooooh ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i think some piggies are going to be popcorning like crazy with their new setup BRILLIANT love x)x)x)x)

Oh wow! I thought the single hutch was already 2 connected! It's so spacious! You've got some lucky spoilt piggies now!

Wow fantastic, so they now have a 14foot long hutch. x)

You should have happy exploring piggies that love all that space - Its fantastic to see piggies run and popcorn, they'll certainly be doing this in their new home.

I want photo off the piggies inside enjoying their home :o

:)

they are certainly enjoying it. for some reason, unless they are out of their hutch and run and running free on the patio they dont tend to popcorn :( hope they are happy, they just dont seem to do it. they are also quite quiet, only once or twice a week have i heard them wheeking at the sound of a veggie bag. then again, they have veggies every afternoon, maybe they just expect them and know they dont need to wheek.

am just about to go get them out to put them in their run for some grass mowing time. then boris can go into the big hutches for a wander about and to get used to all the girly smells :))

have just added up the total cost of the hutches including the few bits we've done such as adding the legs and draught proofing the bed area, and for this entire set-up.....£150 :)) all the toys etc are stuff from my husbands workplace, the cable drum is a definite favourite with them, they have dug out a track going around it at the end of their hutch from where they are running flat out and spinning around it to go back again. the only thing we have bought is the 4 chinchilla nest boxes from p@h for them to sleep in.

:(|) looks fantastic. Bet they're loving the running room in there :)) We have to decide on a set up for our piggies at our caravan for indoors at night and thought about joining pens with chube or similar ?/ My OH has knocked the spare bedroom out so have good space now (have two sets of boars and a pair of sows so need everything x 3 rolleyes)
Great way of providing loads of room for your piggies, I love it. Well done :)p

Hey Boris will have a fab afternoon taking in their smells :)) Wait till the girls go back in "who's been sleeping in my bed ! " "Its norty Boris sneeking on round while we were out and eating all our lovely hay too !" Oohhh you are in for it Boris when the girls can eventually get their hands on you ! :))

wow thats a massive space for your pigs, lucky piggys :)):)) thats my next mission, making an outdoor hutch for my pigs for when we gets some more nice weather :):)

Hi Guinea pig slave. I was going to take my piggies to our carvan but the temperature inside when its sunny is like an oven. I was thinking about an air conditioning unit ?/ How do you manage it?

We haven't taken them yet as their runs only arrived today. I thought about this as like you say, inside can be a bit like a sauna during the day :{
Hopefully if the weather gets nice again and we take them for a little break, they can stay outdoors until the evening (we potter outside until quite late) until it gets cooler and darker. Thinking of taking a floor fan in the summer if need be :)) have one in storage somewhere :{
Haven't spent a night there since we had the piggies as I won't leave them :... despite my daughter being 19 and very capable :x

That is the most amazing hutch. Great imagination. Its amazing what we can come up with, well donexx

:)) Boris went in and immediately rumbled his butt off dancing his way through the hutches. i think by the time he got to the end of the run and found nobody he was a little disappointed :)) didnt stop him munching the grass and dandelions i had picked and put in there. when the girls went back in they were going nuts sniffing around and talking to each other. id love to know what they were saying!

there is 1 thing I'm hoping to change in the near future with these hutches, and thats to frame and hinge the wire mesh panels so i can use them as doors, i think this would make it much easier. annoyingly the pigs have already figured that whichever hutch i open, they can nip through the tunnel and be out of reach again in the 2nd hutch...its a good job i love them x)

that looks amazing! what a good idea! you have some very lucky piggys x) x
