So since I got my guineas, I've had nothing but trouble with them, and after a massive bunch of chaos I had to decide to rehome my group :'( I kept my boy Damon as he was being badly bullied and he was just lovely.
So he's on his own and has been doing so well, he's so happy, popcorns all the time and is out of his igloo, which he never used to do with the group!
I have him out for floortime and cuddles, I feel him veg on my lap and he usually licks my hands and face. But now, he's suddenly gone horrid, biting my finger and pulling my skin, and doesn't want anything to do with me. Tries to get back in his cage etc and he's just always biting me :(

Does anyone know why this has happened?

Have you checked whether he could have mites?

Alternatively, he could have his own surge of hormones.

I don't think he has mites, he lives in my bed room so I doubt he will have!
Hmm, maybe it's his hormones. Just upsetting why he's suddenly gone nasty!

Mite eggs can survive in the skin and hit whenever a piggy is stressed or its immune system is lowered from illness.

However, a testosterone hit can have a similar effect.

How do you know what mites look like on a guinea? x

Just to add that a flare up of mites is extremely common when a piggy has a change of circumstances such as a new home, new cage etc. In the time that I have had piggies every single one of them has had mites at some stage or another, usually due to the stress of arriving in a new home or a new herd member joining. Piggies kept indoors are just as likely to get them as ones housed outside.

Frazzle went through this phase. Wouldn't let me stroke him and would jump away and was an avid nibbler/biter when I got him out for cuddles. Treated him for mites and he got better , not sure if it was a coincidence or not but he is now the loveliest pig ever.
