dandruff for piggies?

What is the stuff that appears to look like Human dandruff? When we pet Lucy a lot of the times lil white dry skin things come off of her.. Is that normal? is it piggy dandruff?

It could be just dry skin, but it also could be a sign of a fungal infection or mites. I'd get Lucy checked out by a vet just in case

Hello there,

What bedding do you use? Sawdust can dry piggies skin out and cause dandruff, it may be worth trying something else and seeing if it makes a difference.

they are on towels with a bin of carefresh bedding in there....

Not sure if it could be the carefresh then.....?

Might be worth a trip to the vets to make sure everything is on order and it isn't any skins conditions as HW suggested.

I have never heard of guinea pigs with dandruff but it may be one of those rare things like ear wax which I know does occur. If she starts to lose hair to then a visit to the vets might be worthwhile as hair loss with bits of white attatched is generally a sign of a fungal infection.
