Dandruff / mites ?

Hello everyone :)

Need some help again if you don't mind? Was lifting Treacle out of the run just then and noticed what looked like tiny white flakes on her coat. They are on her coat at the top / back end. There isn't a lot and they don't appear to be moving.

Could this be mites? Do piggies get dandruff? Any ideas what I should treat her with? Honey seems to be fine, just checked her over too.

It could indeed be mites. The best thing is to get her seen by a vet to determine which type it is and give you the right medication.
 
Hello, I haven't experienced mites myself but have read a lot about them - I seem to remember that if the specks are focused around the back end then mites are a likely possibility. Have you used anything on them recently like a piggy wipe or a shampoo? We noticed that when we used a cleaning wipe (meant for guinea pigs) on Burt, he tended to get white flakes for a few days afterwards, but then they clear up and disappear totally. Sorry not much help, best to take them to the vets to be sure.
 
pigs can get dandruff like us, white flaky bits of skin, mine get a shampoo in dandruff shampoo and its sorted.
 
I have just treated mine for mites, and as you say there is some dandruff and in cases some hair loss too. You could try the spot on treatments for mites first and if you get no signs of improvement, see the vet for further advice. Be aware that you will have to treat them 3 times at week intervals.
