I think... THINK... that any you can see will be empty because when they are laid they are smaller. Head lice in people lay eggs that are soft and small - these can squish through the teeth of a nit comb. As the egg matures it gets bigger and the casing becomes harder - these are the ones that nit combs remove in children. So if piggy lice are similar they won't be visible until just before they hatch or after they've hatched... and the ones hatching out should be killed by the Revolution.

Does that sound about right to you @eileen ?
 
hey yall its me again, so as you may know the piggies had lice and we got the medicing, and it supposedly only lasts a month, that was up on march 8th(?) and they still have a few eggs the both of them. there are not many as a said, just a few. i was wondering if these are just empty eggs or actual eggs with lice in them? thanks
 
Do you mean hay mites rather than lice? Lice are white wiggly things you can see with your eyes. Mites are invisible to the naked eye but you see the empty casings left behind when they hatch. The casings are attached to the hairs. With mites (and also lice) you need 3 rounds of treatment. One to kill the live ones, one to kill the hatchlings and one to kill any survivors.

well when we went and got the treatment, the vet asid they were definitely lice. and apparently in some american vets (where i live) we use this thing called revoloution witch worked okay.
 
I’m going to find your original thread and move your posts. Please can you keep all to one thread as it’s impossible for us to follow what is going on if you make new threads.
 
Right. So you’ve used Revolution. When was this? And have you had any follow up doses?
 
I know this is very late on this thread but my Guinea just got prescribed with revolution as well for mites I was also wondering if I really need to do another dosage next month ?

It would be best to refer to your vet and the product packaging for whether you need to do more. Xeno tends to be prescribed here in the UK (which does need repeat treatments) most commonly than Revolution.
 
There are different types of mites. Some, which live in the skin are very nasty for pigs but it seems the products treat them quite quickly as they can't escape! Some, as one recent poster discovered, live more in the hair and although these don't bother the pigs so much it seems they are more difficult to get rid of as (presumably) they are in less contact with the treatment in the pig. If my pig had no problems or side effects with the first treatment I'd take him/her for a repeat to be sure because it's darn frustrating when you think something's gone and then you realise it hasn't a few months later when you're back to square one!
