My 4 year old Guinea pig Daphne has a large lump on her side , which she's had for about a year ( had it checked twice at vets and they said they just wanted to keep an eye on it!) however lately she has lost a lot of fur on that side. The skin doesn't look red or sore, and she is fine in herself. Should I take her back to the vets? Also if you lightly poke the skin at the site of the lump it takes a little longer to raise back up and leaves a little dent?Any advice would be great.🤔

One of the more experienced members will give you a more detailed and helpful response, but I'll give it a try. If it seems like it's deteriorating, going back to the vet ASAP would be beneficial. I don't know about the slow rising part as it is a bit unusual, but I just read this on a website, "If the abscess is below the skin, then you can identify it if the area has been warm, becomes a lump, and the hair on top of it begins to fall off. If you can get your guinea pig to the vet in time, then your vet will be able to drain it and dress it properly in an attempt to prevent further infection." Hope this helps!

Best Wishes,
Gia xoxo

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like you're absolutely right I suspected an abscess could be the problem but I will get her back to the vets as soon as possible. She is healthy and happy in herself and lives with her sister,Joan.image.webp
