Hi everyone! x>>

As you probably know our gorgeous little Bubble passed away last week leaving Squeak on her own. I really would like to find her a friend by going to a rescue that offers dating. (I already know the rescue I'm looking to go to) But I was just wondering how successful dating actually is? I hate to get home and for Squeak and her new little friend to fall out... If this did happen what would happen from there? I'd much rather Squeak have a friend.. Even if the lived side by side (but of course I would much prefer them leaving together!)
Thanks

I took Caramel dating and the first piggies she tried was successful. They have lived together since just before Christmas and there were no issues beyond light dominance issues. I think every piggie is different and you'll have to be led by Squeak. Good luck x

Ah ok thanks x it sounds like there has been a lot of success stories with dating but I suppose it depends on the pigs

From the piggie dating stories I've read on here, it seems that if you use an experienced dating rescue for your piggie, they will maybe get a great pairing straight away or sometimes need to try a few pigs to find the perfect match & you get advice about what to expect & how to manage things when you get them home.

I would have a look at Suzy's dating threads & chat with a Piggy Bank rescue near you for info & advice.

Good luck, I'm sure it will be worth it to get Squeak a new friend :)

If you can get to an experienced rescue that does piggy dating it is very worthwhile.
We piggy dated Rosie with Ruby, and then went back to the rescue and dated them with Esme and Tia (Ruby had been living with those two at the rescue).
It is not all plain sailing, the initial pair we tried with our two had quite a few dominance issues so that is when Esme and Tia were tried and all four snuggled up near each other.
Over the (nearly) year we have had them, there hasn't been any problems apart from some slight dominance when one or other is in season but that is expected

Worked for my boy Merlin too, first try he hated the boy he was introduced too, took him back 10 days later to meet a baby and he was in love and happy still today :)

Yes it can be very successful! I dated Rodney last summer & he happily now lives with his new man friend Billy - first & only piggy he met ..

Have a go ;) x

You may find Suzy's (residential or full) boar dating thread interesting; she details her success stories as well as her failures with bonding boars of all ages over the course of several days. On average, it seems to take about 2 intros to find the right friend. A few boars needed a second visit with three more (different) rescue boars, but only very rarely was Suzy unable to bond a boy at all.

I have been able to find the perfect "husboar" (neutered boar) for my two rather formidable middle aged cataract sows through dating at a rescue - #1 was Mr. Right (we went for the most submissive and laid back boy first), and the intro couldn't have gone any smoother! And that in view of Tegyd lunging at my dominant big group boar...
