Well Tuesday was absolutely crazy!

Got home from a 12 hr shift at 6am, snoozed for 5 hours, up and showered - postman knocks in the middle of shower - embarressingly answer door all wet, nekkid and cold :( .. turns out its the correx to complete my C&C cage! I continued my shower with purpose!

Finished cage, why did I pick an L shape with seperate rooms? It's REALLY difficult to make it all match up to dimension when you've tied down the bars! Cut my hands LOADS with the metal measuring tape.

Posted a cheque to pepperdog for a fabulous SQUBE, bought some masking tape and more zip ties and newspaper, went to pick up guineas.

Owners are wonderful people, but had to move and had no space for the house rabbit, cat and guineas.. guineas as newest family members had to be sacrificed :( :( GUINEAS ARE PORKY! Got fed what looks like ready grass only, and very large veg portions and don't seem used to being held. Screamed murder when picked up and owners had to hold very tightly with talon hands to keep them from scrambling. :( :(

Got them home, gave them half an hour in the carry case before opening it up into cage then left them alone for a while. Popped up intermittantly to say hi and see how the cage was holding out. So far they have been all over the cage but will LEG IT when they see you. I've got my work cut out for these two! Managed a quick 3 minute lap time with one of them just to get used to my voice and smell. She let me stroke all over her and although seemed keen to get off my lap did't bolt when my hands moved around her..

Quick, darty and nervous little girls but hopefully after 3 or 4 days of food related contact I will increase lap time to 15 mins, half hour and then in a few weeks hourly once/twice a day depending on my work rota. When I'm comfortable I can pick them up with out giving them a heart attack I will give them floor time :) Then I get to explain to Leeland and Vincent why floor time has changed and why they are not the only beautiful people in my heart...

SORRY LEELAND AND VINCENT! TIME'S A CHANGIN'!

Anyway, finished my day by going to my partner's gig to help with equipment and make sure someone cheered, and then home for more snoozes. Up at 8 for a massage and a facial!

Nighty night! x

exciting times, good for you being a foster mum!
enjoy your massage ;)

Sounds very tiring but rewarding! Do we get pigtures?

:P I'm buying a new camera today so when it arrives in the post I will indeed pigture your brains out.. though these girls dart at the sight of me so I will have to make a hide or something next to the cage with movement sensative triggers and stuff!

A hide :))

Maybe you should get a guinea pig costume like 'The Potteries Rescue' have and convince them you are head of the herd?

They'll soon get used to you. When we first got our first girls we had to set up a video camera to see if they ever came out! They avoided us so much :))

I buckled.. we've had short cuddles every day but they are usually out for about 40 minutes.. today I made a play area out of my bed and one was brave enough to let me pick her up from the cage without running.. but she gave a short squeek of outrage :P

Looks like Perky is the chubbiest and most food driven.. very kind and lovely eyes! and quick to learn that we dont mean harm. Pinky is the more skittish and is smaller, her head even seems tiny, but she doesn't enjoy strokes much really and is reluctant to take food by hand. They're both jittery and move in sharp bursts but I saw a 180 popcorn today when presented with new hay and one bolted away from me only to start eating so I don't think it was a panic dash.. more a youthful zestyness.

Anyway, I'm off to bed. I'm savering myself before admitting to my next door neighbour that it was me that set her car alarm off when I bumpered our cars tonight :( Left a bit of a scratch :( I hope it doesn't cost me more than £200... she's seems to like all her things to be tidy and neat - even with 2x4/5 year old kids! gulp.
