Hi all!

My Herbert has finally overcome his bladder stones and has been stone free for a little over 3 months, after undergoing 3 cystotomies (yay!). He has been at the vet weekly (and now bi-weekly) for x-rays to make sure no stones are reappearing. He will periodically have small calcium deposits, but about two days ago he had two very large ones. He has been on a strict diet, no pellets, all low calcium veggies, reverse osmosis filtered water, and SEVERAL supplements which have seemed to aid in keeping the stones away. Since then, I have been weighing him daily and he has been going down a bit. Monday he was 2.086 (2 pounds and .086 ounces), Tuesday was 2.024, and 2.016 today. Should I be concerned? I realize that the difference is a fraction of an ounce and I have not been weighing him the same exact time everyday. However considering his history with bladder stones, I am a bit worried. I have moved his appointment from next Monday to this Friday just as a precaution.

Any input would be appreciated!

Herbert & Mommy.

I wouldn't weigh him daily, but weekly at the same time of day. The losses you are noticing could easily be the difference between an empty bladder and a full one. I work in grams, but more than 100g in a week is the red flag (that's about 3.5 ounces, I think). I know you must be hyper aware of anything that changes with him, but I don't think it is a major problem as yet. Good luck with keeping the stones away. They do tend to return, whatever we try to do to stop them (and you are doing all the right things). I hope these deposits aren't the start of more stones. Herbert is clearly a fighter!
