Hi all,

Just looking for some general advice for my piggy who is 6yrs old and has lost her hearing. She had some kind of excema/scab on her ear which I have treated with cleaning and putting on antibacterial cream. Do you think this is related to the deafness?

Generally id like to find out how to keep her engaged and feeling safe after losing her hearing? She seems generally quite happy but a little more reclusive at times which I suppose is understandable.

Any tips welcome. She is a much loved piggy and I want her to continue being happy despite her new disability.

Thanks

Hi! I am very sorry. It is I'm-possible for me to say what has caused her deafness; only a vet who can check her ears, especially the inside will able to get an idea what it going on.

Please stimulate her with smells, textures and visual things for her to explore. She is losing out on a lot, considering how vocal guinea pigs are, but they can still interact happily with their mates. Has she got company?

I'm afraid she's on her own. I do worry that she will get sad. When I went to work I always left the radio on for her for comfort but now she can't hear it I worry about her getting bored.
She has lots of space, with tunnels and hiding places and I've been changing things around in her pen regularly to keep her exploring.
Also regular treats and cuddles.
