hi all,

i have a new piggy girl who is about 6 weeks old and i got her tues evening. she loves being out on the grass during the day and she doesnt run, she will sit in the open part of the run no problem and she really doesnt mind being handled once i have hold of her. however there is a dog that barks alot next door and i live out in the sticks so the raf enjoy flying their fighters above us just about every day but she doesnt flinch at all she is quite happy to keep munching on grass.

so is she just a really confident baby pig or could she be deaf and if she is deaf how can i test that. my other two pigs were always scared at first but now they are used to the noise........

thanks xx

Try making a sudden noise behind her back where she can't see you. If she doesn't react, she is probably deaf.

I thought the other day that my older boar (aged 4) might have gone deaf as he wasn't reacting to passing trains and planes, so I clapped behind his back - nothing. I assumed he was in fact deaf, until I opened the fridge in the next door room (where he couldn't see) and he immediately started wheeking!

But I agree, test her with a loud noise behind her. If she is deaf, I'm not sure whether it will be a huge problem in a piggy anyway.

I wouldn't worry if she is deaf, my horse was deaf and still lived a full and happy life!

ah thank you, well i dont think she is deaf as we got scared of the tv this morning so i do think we can hear perfectly fine we are just really confident xx

I am glad that the little one isn't deaf!

i really wouldnt of minded as she is soo beautiful anyway i just thought her confidence was huge compared to my other two so maybe i was just a bit concerned thank you for all your advice and support xx
