New Born Pup
Hello, I am looking for advice. I have a piggie that has had a suspected respiratory infection for about three weeks now. None of the others showed symptoms nor were affected. We did thirteen days of baytril with no improvements to her wheezing. Then she had eight days of azithromycin. She had two days of no wheezing unless I bought her up really close to my ear and then she went back to wheezing. I have also been nebulising her twice a day with saline and she received fibreplex 1-2x a day alongside rodevitgastro (fibreplex was hard to get out of the syringe).
Yesterday she had a period of gut stasis and some gas in her colon (although not as much as the vet expected) so she spent the day at the vet. He could not see anything major on her X-rays with her lungs. She was sent home last night and is on emeprid and cisapride. Her breathing got worse at the vet which they thought was due to stress. I also have discontinued the antibiotic.
This morning I noticed she was mouth breathing at times and her belly looked bigger. I’m a last ditch effort since the vets were not open (was 4:30 am) I gave her 0.2ml of infant calpol and some infracol along with some heat and massage. She has been receiving critical care throughout but is fighting me a lot more. She will eat soft bits of readigrass if I put it one blade at a time next to her mouth which I have been doing. She spits out the hay.
She has been pooing and these look semi-normal just a bit small (photo attached). Is there anything more I can do for her? I did not nebulise her last night since the vet said to just focus on her gut and he does not think nebulising works. I have re-started the nebulising this morning due to her mouth breathing.
I know her gassy belly is the primary issue right now. Is there anything else I can do to try and get her to pass the gas? Is there anything else I can do for her breathing? I can take her back to the vets however due to staff illness they have limited staff members and so I feel like I can give her one on one 24/7 attention that may not be available at the vets today?
