Junior Guinea Pig
Hi everyone, I'm Sunny from Melbourne, Australia. I have a beautiful girl here, her name is Martha. She's only 4 years old. Until recently she never displayed any health issues until about 3 months ago, her eating pace & quantity has decreased & her weight has dropped. Her poops have also become very small. I was dreading this because we lost her sister Harley Quinn in December last year due teeth malocclusion. It was a very very difficult battle with Quinn, she has had her teeth filed down a couple of times but sadly it didn't fix the problem & she died in my arms 2 weeks before Christmas. It was a horrible experience. I didn't expect her sister Martha to have dental issues now too.
I have taken her to the vet, but I'm ashamed to say there is no competent vet for guinea pigs here in Australia, we are very behind in everything! I have taken her to the most "popular" exotic vet in Melbourne, and their prognosis about Martha is not good. The dental x-ray showed elongated tooth root but deep into the jaw , unlike her sister Quinn where the teeth grew from the roots up. Martha is completely the opposite. They said sadly it's only a matter of weeks or months. They stated they have never seen dental disease this bad, where both sides of the bottom jaw has elongated tooth roots. I am not sure what to think, I feel like there is hope because I read all these wonderful success stories from Europe & I just want to believe this is not the end of Martha. I just can't accept it. I have attached Martha's dental x-ray from this week, please guys give me some hope, obviously honesty is appreciated

is there any treatments that can save my baby girl? She is not really into veggies or pellets anymore, but loves fresh grass & some hay cut up in small pieces.
She is on Meloxicam, antibiotics & Gabapentin too. Hoping the antibiotics will prevent a dental abscess ( which Quinn had too). She was my chunkiest girl & the loudest, now she has lost her voice & hips
It just hurts to see all this. So looking forward to hearing from you all wonderful piggy parents.
Thank you sooo much in advance. Much love from Martha & I
