Hi there
Does anyone know of anyone in the devon/cornwall area who is able to conduct dental work without GA, i have a pig who is having dental problems. Snowys teeth were filed under GA 2 weeks ago and he is still struggling to eat on his own and i am still syringe feeding. Have lost confidence in the local vets in plymouth and would like to take him to some one with experience in dental problems. I have managed to stop his weightloss by syringe feeding a mixture of oxbow or burgess mixed with organic baby food or porridge to help build him up and this appears to be working. I am also giving him 1ml of proboitic daily. I do not want to keep putting him through a GA which is all the vets seem to do.
Fingers crossed there is someone near me ( i live in plymouth but work in helston cornwall)
Cheers

I can't help on finding someone local, but I wonder if Daktarin oral gel might help? It's an over the counter product (although you can buy it online too), that a lot of piggy owners swear by for sore piggy mouths. You may find that it heals up some sore bits in the piggy's mouth and encourages eating again.

If you search on here you will find lots of references to it, if you're interested.

Thanks for the advice, am going to go and get some of the gel this afternoon. He's just not interested in food, will come and have a sniff but thats about it.so i'm still syringe feeding 4 times aday to stop him losing anymore weight. My concern now is his wet mouth. We didn't have any of the wet mouth before but over the last 24 hrs he is wet around his mouth and chin. Its been 18 days since his op so i'm taking him back to the vets tomorrow to see what they say but i think they are going to say he needs another op and i don't want to keep putting him through a GA every 3 weeks..i think its cruel. I am at my wits end and completly stressed out, i contacted vedra at CCT and she said there are no qualified rodentologists in my area only trainees. I just don't know what else to do..if anyone can recommend a vets in plymouth or cornwall please let me know. Any advice or help would be greatly received.

Could you contact a local rescue, see if they could suggest one that they use. He needs to be seen asap as they can go down hill very quick with dental problems, he really needs to be seen before he starts to lose any weight, if he had to be put under GA he stands a better chance of recovery if he is still strong. Hope you find someone soon. Good luck. :(
