Hi guys haven't posted on here for a while as things have been slowly but surely going in the right direction with my piggys :) (yay!) however now I am having some issues with my boy and I am not sure what the best decision is for him. (quickly my background is I have never owned guinea pigs before these two so very inexperienced, I wanted to do the right thing however and rescue rather than buy from a pet store, the rescue center I got them from told me it would be ok keeping a brother and sister together until 3-4 months. Seeing the boys sexual behavior I joined this website in a panic and separated them straight away and was lucky to avoid a pregnancy).
He seems to be going through the terrible twos and has become at best stroppy at worse slightly vicious towards me and anyone else sorting things out in his cage - one of my friends said he had "cage rage" although I do not think this is the case, I think he will grow out of this but if anyone has experience of this advise would be greatly appreciated.
My main issue is that when he and his sister see each other through the bars she does not react well to his rumble strutting and there is a lot of teeth chattering and they have bitten each other through the bars, I am doubtful now a reintroduction would even work.... so I want to find out is it even worth neutering him as I do not want to endanger his life for no reason (the rescue center gave me a neutering voucher however the nearest guinea pig specialist is a £30 taxi journey away which I have already done once and I was told he was to young/ small at that time, which was a bit painful on my bank balance and stressful for him!)
How dangerous is this operation for him? would it be fairer to give him to a home where he will be with a boy and get another girl myself? I haven't made my mind up but advise would be very much appreciated. Also if the advise I get is re-homing him is the fairest option does anyone know how much trouble I could be in with the rescue center as I would want to give him to a proper guinea pig rescue ..
Thank you :)

Sorry that you are in such trouble! Your boy is currently right in the stroppiest phase of his teenage hormones and you are at the receiving end of his frustrations. :(

I would strongly recommend to speak with @Little Pips Rehoming or Norman Gorman rescue as they can best help you to work out a practical solution that is fairest for your and your piggies' long term happiness.

Ok thank you wiebke .. are norman gorman on here? Little pips have helped alot already :)
I feel awful about the prospect of re-homing him as I feel like I have just given up on him which isn't the case... Just want to be fair on them both :/ and I imagine the operation is rather risky so it would be awful if I put him through that for no reason...

Norman Gorman are not on here, just Erica from Little Pips. Would it be a possibility to keep a couple of boars above your girl hutch/cage? At least you would have the option to date at either rescue for a suitable mate.

it would be possible - the cage is double story however i do not think it is big enough for two - it is 108 x 60 on each story. The original plan was to have both stories joined and I have built a 3x4 c&c cage for the bottom story which my girl currently has use of, the cage is joined to it, she is unhappy on the top floor without the room to explore. It has occurred to me that my boys behavior is a result of not having the space he wants but getting another cage is not possible sadly :/ I do not have any more space that can be in a protected area (I have two cats)

A 2x3 C&C grid cage has the same ground space as a traditional 2x4 ft cage or hutch, so if you'd let the boys have access to the hutch and separate the two cages with some solid opaque divider, you could fit a companion for each piggy into the minimal RSPCA space recommendation with some generous extra upstairs space for two boys so they can get away from each other if necessary. ;)

shutting the cage would be possible and having the c and c cage alongside ... would the boys smelling and seeing the girls be an issue though?
