Junior Guinea Pig
Hi guys haven't posted on here for a while as things have been slowly but surely going in the right direction with my piggys
(yay!) however now I am having some issues with my boy and I am not sure what the best decision is for him. (quickly my background is I have never owned guinea pigs before these two so very inexperienced, I wanted to do the right thing however and rescue rather than buy from a pet store, the rescue center I got them from told me it would be ok keeping a brother and sister together until 3-4 months. Seeing the boys sexual behavior I joined this website in a panic and separated them straight away and was lucky to avoid a pregnancy).
He seems to be going through the terrible twos and has become at best stroppy at worse slightly vicious towards me and anyone else sorting things out in his cage - one of my friends said he had "cage rage" although I do not think this is the case, I think he will grow out of this but if anyone has experience of this advise would be greatly appreciated.
My main issue is that when he and his sister see each other through the bars she does not react well to his rumble strutting and there is a lot of teeth chattering and they have bitten each other through the bars, I am doubtful now a reintroduction would even work.... so I want to find out is it even worth neutering him as I do not want to endanger his life for no reason (the rescue center gave me a neutering voucher however the nearest guinea pig specialist is a £30 taxi journey away which I have already done once and I was told he was to young/ small at that time, which was a bit painful on my bank balance and stressful for him!)
How dangerous is this operation for him? would it be fairer to give him to a home where he will be with a boy and get another girl myself? I haven't made my mind up but advise would be very much appreciated. Also if the advise I get is re-homing him is the fairest option does anyone know how much trouble I could be in with the rescue center as I would want to give him to a proper guinea pig rescue ..
Thank you
