18 months of complaining that Jet isn't well and today I find out that his molars are overgrown but that he also has limited jaw mobility. I have asked them to contact Simon and see if he has any suggestions.

Otherwise it looks as if we are a the end of his life. I know I could syringe for the forseeable future but in terms of time and pressure I just can't keep this up long term.
 
I really hope Simon can help you with Jet. Hopefully trimming his molars or something will help!

Thank you all - it explains everything. They have trimmed the spurs off his molars but won't trim them dow n as they feel the jaw arthritis will prevent the teeth from meeting. I am hoping simon has some sort of idea as to what to do.
 
Oh dear! One the one hand at least you now finally have answers as to what’s been goin on, really hoping Simon can help with a solution.
Oh poor Jet, you little sausage, no wonder you have been having such a tough time eating.
 
What are people’s experiences of sedation by injection? I’ve just seen him and he is out of it! I’m wondering whether you can get piggies on planes!
 
The vet has spoken to Simon. Simon's advice is to treat it agressivly. I am not sure my vet was agressive enough first time around (indeed what they told me at the time and what I can see how indicates this is the case - his mouth is still wedged quite wide open) but I have him booked in for next Friday to have a second burr (which will hopefully be done as per simon's instructions and agressive).

Simon said wait 2 weeks between appointments and this will be 9 days (on the basis that I feel the first was almost a waste of time). Should I delay it until the following week to allow the full 2 weeks? @furryfriends (TEAS) do you have any thoughts?
 
How is he in himself? I think Simon is probably thinking about the fact it will be another GA and would rather advise a bigger gap between them. Is Jet able to eat anything for himself? I would try and delay a few days, but maybe look at getting it done at the start of next week.
 
It sounds like your vet may not have got to the very back of the mouth too. This seems to happen a lot. They burr back teeth that may be bridging the tongue but don't burr all the teeth. Sometimes they only do the lower arcades and leave the top teeth, that can often be rubbing against the cheek. You only have to have some elongation at the very back and this will crank the mouth open. It only needs to be a small amount of extra tooth, but it will prevent the mouth closing properly and the piggy will not be able to eat, resulting in the teeth just overgrowing further.

Thank you, he is quite bright but still struggling to manipulate food around his mouth. He loves strawberry leaves from our alpine strawberry plant but after one he is so fed up he gives up, he isn't yet trying to self feed. Our vet said the arthritis was keeping his jaw open but personally I wonder if his teeth were shorter would he have more mobility. As for appointments we can either do 4 May or 10 May due to bank holidays here on 7 and 9 May. I will see how he goes over the weekend. I am sort of worried that if they didn't take the teeth down properly then the 2 weeks will be very uncomfortable for him.
 
I think I'd be looking at doing 4th May to be honest. I have lost count of the times I have been told by people, that their vet has said they have arthritis in the jaw, or a dislocated jaw and not one has had either and have eaten well as soon as the teeth have been filed properly. It is really quite depressing just how lacking in dental knowledge so many vets are.
 
Thank you that was my instinct then I have 5 days off work too in order to look after him. To be fair to my vet although a little defensive they have been open to talking to Simon.
 
OK he is booked in for Friday, I am going to ask for a bladder flush too as he is uncomfortable. What pain relief should he have as my vets seem to do metacam or metacam.
