I am too upset to go into giant details but after several enormously scary asthma attacks numerous trial and errors it Has been determined my lovely boys are the culprits. My lungs just can't handle them anymore. I'm devistated and I've been sobbing nearly all day. I've found a store that will take them and find them a proper home as someone will be " adopting" them not just walking into the store and purchasing them . I've been given a verbal promise that they will do thier very best to ensure they go to a experienced guinea pig owner and not a novice and they will ensure the pairs not be split up. I know they could be Lying and just telling me what I want to hear but we don't have rescues option so other than putting them to sleep which I will not do, it's their only hope of a life. I don't want to do this, I'm beside myself. I have them all the cuddles I could with a mask on, trimmed thier nails, bathed them... Did a major clean out. Fed then all they wanted of thier favorite foods and told them goodbye. My husband will be taking them tommorow as I can't do it. I've had to give myself three treatments just for the goodbye cares n cuddles. We thought as long as I didn't handle them maybe we could keep them... Week long experiment proves just them being in the house is problematic to my lungs. We are gutted but my doctor insists this is life or death for me. What I don't understand is they never bothered me much in the beginning ... It's just progressively gotten worse.
So out of options and broken hearted. I will attempt to ask they give my number to who takes them. That's all for now , I've sobbed myself into another attack, I need to go calm down and breathe . Please pray my boys get a good home, stay together ( at least in pairs) and that I don't loose forever contact with them!!

I am so deeply sorry for you, how terrible. Firstly you have to look after yourself first, and rehoming is the only options, it's a shame one of the USA forum Members could not take them in then you would know they would be very happy indeed.

Big big hugs
I must dash and get ready for work but will be back on later x

Oh gosh, I am so sorry but as Lil says, you have to do what's right for your health.

I would love to have my girls indoors but due to lack of room and my hubby's allergy to them, they live outside in the shed.

It's a shame you're so far away :(

May be you could write a thread in the rescue and rehoming section? We do have members in the USA. Could be worth a try?

I shall keep my fingers crossed that the store stick to their word. You could always request a photo or something as proof xx

Well hubby took them, and he said one of the store employees fell in love and wanted them since they had all their stuff with them. Still bawling but that me feel at least a little better. We can go in and check on them.

oh I'm so sorry you have had to do this, but i agree with the others, you need to take care of yourself, i was allergic to one of my pigs a few years ago and it was uncomfortable, but your situation sounds horrendous.

You have done the best thing, try not to be too hard on yourself xx

Is the employee going to take them? It is nice to are able to visit them.

A very sad situation but hopefully the outcome will be positive.

Also, I hope that you stay on the forum. We have other members who have had to re home their piggies for various reasons but have stayed around and are able to enjoy everyone else's :)

awww thanks claire. I probably wont have much to post. But I will hop on and say hello , and look in on how everyone is doing.
The young lady is apperently taking them. which is good. They wont be there for days on end, scared and alone, or possibly split up. she can just take them home tonight when her shift ends..and they can settle sooner.

I've realised it could go very wrong ...but I figure as long as she is working there I can pop in and ask her how they are doing. I'm going to miss them. But I realised it isnt fair to them to never be messed with , or put outside in the cold where ANYTHING could get to them. We have cyoties, snakes, fox's, cats, dogs, ect...running around here out in the country. So I wont put their life in jeapordy. Nor would I put them down.
She may be a novic..but if she was that interested in them, I would think she will do research. I am having to de piggy the house, vacume , dust, wipe down. Leaving my windows open for a few days (if it dosent rain). so hopefully my asthma will knock it off soon.
guess in hindsight shouldve never tried it. But I honestly thought "my dogs dont bother me so why would gpigs".
I was horribly horribly wrong. In fact smores and choco were with us for 9 months...going on ten.
Somewhat shocking that it got worse. sigh.....really sad.

I agree with Claire, please stay on the forum. I'm one of those people who had to rehome their guinea pigs for personal reasons, however, I'm still passionate about them, and love to hear about piggy exploits and see beautiful piggy pictures. It's kind of the next best thing.

You were in a dreadful situation, and had no choice - but it sounds as if they'll go to a good home, and you'll be able to get updates on them from the employee.

There is no way you could have predicted they were going to make you so poorly so don't beat yourself up over it.

I am asthmatic too but have so far been lucky with my animals although they do sometimes make me wheeze and I can't have my cat or a piggy sleeping in the same room as me.

They had a fantastic 10 months with you and are now off on their next adventure to someone who clearly fell for them straight away. Yes, the lady may be a novice but aren't we all when we start out.

At the end of the day, you did the right thing and at least you can ask how they are getting on :)

:( really sorry to read this, I understand how upsetting this must be for you. As others have said you've gotta put your health first and you are doing the best for your boys. It sounds as thought the lady whose had them is gonna give them a loving home.
Huge hugs to you and hope you stay around on here x x x

I'm so sorry :(

Like someone mentioned tho, you didnt know how sick they would make you. I'm sure they were very happy with you but it sounds like they will be well taken care of <3
