So we just got back from holiday, and I noticed that Lucy seems to have developed a bit of a dew lap. It may have been growing slowly before, but after not seeing her for 2 weeks now I can really notice it.
I will get a photo in the morning, but wanted to check if this is normal in a female of her age.
Lucy is 10 months old, weighs 1 kilo (exactly), is very active, has a good appetite etc.
But I always thought dew laps were more common in older piggies?

So before I rush her off to the vet fro something that is completely normal, can anyone offer advice.

WELCOME BACK! Hope you had a good vacation and I am sure Eddi missed his blueberry slaves!

Sorry no idea on the dewlap, just wanted to welcome you "home".

Thanks @Squeakz
It's nice to be back. Although the 13 hour flight followed by a 20 degree drop in temperature is proving difficult.

Eddi on the otehr hand was quite happy to see us, and has already demolished his new willow basket we gave him as a peace offering for being away.

Don't even mention the temperature. My heating is well and truly ON and it is stupid cold at night. All the beds have the fleece blankets over the usual bedding for the last two weeks!
I miss the summer already although there was not much of one this year and it was VERY late coming.

It can vary a lot when (or whether) a dewlap develops; they are much more common in older piggies.

Gently feel the area. As long as a dewlap is soft and floppy, then there is no reason to worry. If you can feel a lump or swelling, then it is definitely time for a prompt trip to the vets!

Thanks @Wiebke.
I did have a feel and it seems soft and floppy, and isn't causing her any discomfort.
She's always been a bit of a 'brick' when it comes to body shape, poor thing, but I will check again tomorrow when I am a bit more with it.

Crunchie used to be a chunky girl
In her prime at 1100g, never had a dewlap. Fudge was around 1050g in her prime, currently 1000g and has always had a dewlap. Poppet is 9 months old, 1030g and has a dewlap. Rowan is 5 months old, 900g and no dewlap! Think it really depends on the piggy. Poppet and crunchie are wide piggies, rowan and fudge are very long, tall and slender.. So i cant even say shape is a factor either! As long as you can still feel her ribs and isnt overweight then i wouldnt worry x
