Dexter Passed Away Unexpectedly

I don't know what happened. I got very ill today. Woke up feeling fantastic, by end of day my throat was raw and I was congested. I decided to take a nap, was asleep for about 4 hours, came back downstairs and Dexter was dead. He's flipped over on his back and I couldn't believe it. I don't know what happened to him. He was fine this morning. I've interacted with him every day this week and even this morning and he seemed perfectly healthy. With my sudden onset sickness... I wonder if I killed him by touching him this morning. I feel so guilty and I can't stop crying.

Here's the last pictures I took of him in his memory. :(
He was such a sweet and gentle boy, I can't believe this has happened.

So sorry for your loss. What lovely photos they show how sweet he was. Please don't blame for yourself for interacting with and caring for him!
 
I'm so sorry for your loss. Please don't feel guilty. You didn't cause it. He might have had a heart attack or something. My hubby loss a piggy in the past the same way.

Although blaming yourself is a perfectly normal part of grief please believe it wasn’t your fault.
Sadly these things happen and it was just an unfortunate coincidence that you weren’t well at the same time.
I’ve lost a guinea pig suddenly and with no sign of illness so I understand how you feel.
Look after yourself and I hope you feel better soon
 
So sorry to hear that Dexter has tottered off to the Rainbow Bridge. Sometimes the call to go is just too strong for them to resist. It wasn't your fault at all. Piggies can be delicate creatures and they hide illness very well. He is popcorning and playing zoomies with his new friends at the Rainbow Bridge now. Comfort yourself with knowing you gave him a lovely life and he enjoyed his time with you.
 
As above I follow what been said. Nothing you have done has caused Dexter passing. I think touching him was beautiful and you will appreciate that in time.
Cry tears of sorrow now but they be tears of happyness when you are stronger and remember the beautiful piggie.
Dexter you naughty piggie. Off to Rainbow World leavin a very sad mummy. She's sad cos she loves you so much. Pop Away little guy. RIP.
 
I honestly don't think any illness could transfer that quickly and that seriously, they all take time to develop, so it's more likely pure coincidence. He was a truly beautiful pet.
 
First off I am very sorry for your loss

You are in no way to blame here, nothing you could have done would have harmed Dexter, please do not beat yourself up about that. An illness could not be transferred and cause him to pass like this

Unfortunately piggies hide illness very well as they are a prey animal, it was just Dexters time unfortunately, please try and remember he had a wonderful life full of love with you and that you are in no way to blame. I am so very sorry for you loss. Huge hugs
