This isn’t exactly an illness question but more of health question.

When she was younger, Ellen was diagnosed with diabetes. Thankfully after changing her diet to a minimal selection of veg and no fruit, she has been in remission for the last couple of years. My vet has advised to just keep her on the same diet to be on the safe side.

However, due to this weather, both her and Edward have been having a tiny bit of water melon between them a couple of times a week. When I say a tiny bit, I mean a small wedge between them and they absolutely love it!

My question is, will Ellen be ok having a tiny amount whilst we are having this heatwave or should I stop feeding it her?

I never used to feed her red peppers due to them being higher in sugar than the other colours but my vet gave me the go ahead to try her and she has been fine having red peppers for the last 6 months.

Personally, I would stick to feeding melon rind rather than the highly sugary inners. Stop as soon as you notice signs of diabetes.
