My four year old guinea pig has had diarrhea for the past 2 days.. He is still eating all his fresh organic vegetables. He has not had pellets for a week...what would be causing the diarrhea? I am scared of losing him.. He is a huge part of our life, we love him... Anyone have any ideas what to do?

Our Guinea pig had diarrhea this weekend, All I did was take all of her fruits and veggies away and gave her only pellets and hay for a day and made sure she was drinking plenty of water because dehydration is a big problem when they have diarrhea, but anyways with only eating hay and pellets she was able to get over her diarrhea fairly quickly. I hope that this helps!

Is the stools a watery mess? If so she needs to see a vet right away. If the stools are just a bit soft remove asll vegetables and it should return to normal but I would have her see a vet to make sure all is okay.

Hi!

Please remove all fresh food from her diet asap for at least 24-48 hours after the poos have firmed up again!

As this has been going on, it would be wise to see a vet, preferably today. If you are dealing with a watery, very smelly mess, you need to see a vet asap as an emergency. Diarrhea is not something to take lightly. Your vet can also check whether she is dehydrated.

Weigh your piggy daily and if necessary hand feed. Make sure that you also give 1ml of water for every 3ml of hand feed. In cases of diarrhea it is even more important to avoid dehydration than usual.
