I have two new guinea pigs. They are still nervous so I've just been feeding them and making sure they have fresh water and hay. I feed them pellets and I've been giving them carrot, cucumber and red bell pepper and today I gave them a bit of apple. They are eating really well, eating tons of hay and they seem happy and a bit more confident. The one is hiding a lot and I've not seen her drink. I cleaned out their cage today best I could and saw she has diarrhea and where she has been hiding is a big patch of it. Should I get them to a vet or will is stress them out? Will it go away by itself? Am I feeding them too much/the wrong things? I've heard some GPs don't last long once they have this especially with not drinking? The other doesn't have it so could she just be stressed from the new environment etc? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

it could be a mixture of new surrounding and a lot of veg at once. If it was me i would drop the veg completely and just give hay and pellets and perhaps some pro-biotic.

How old are they, where did you get them from? Have you been weighing them, if not i would start and keep a close eye on them.

I agree, just the hay and pellets for now. And if there is no improvement then see a vet. I would say a trip to the vet wont be that stressful. When piggies get ill they need treatment as soon as possible as they can go downhill pretty quick.

give the pig some water from the syringe regularly - she must be really dehydrated by now if she's got diarrhea especially if she's not drinking

Poor baby. I really hope once you cut out the vegetables she gets better.

Just thought I'd let you guys know she is doing fine now, she's been drinking and no diarrhea. Could it just have been stress?

It could be that they aren't used to fresh food? Maybe eliminate one of the foods completely, & then reintroduce slowly after a few days if they show no signs of upset tummies :)
