My elderly pig Clementine (5.5years) suddenly started having loose wet poops (not quite liquidy diahrroea) a few days ago. I thought it might have been a diet change with me giving her more fresh grass, so stopped all veg. No improvement. Given her some left over Septrin and probiotics for past 2/3 days. Still the same.

I've been giving her critical care twice a day as she's lost weight before all this poop business started, but this seems to be making her poops wetter/looser?

I mentioned it to my vet the other day (had to have one of my other pigs PTS due to kidney stones) and she said 'oh all we'll probably do is just give her some antibiotics anyway.'

Should I take her to the vets and ask for different antibiotics? She's absolutely fine within herself-still wheeking and bossing her cagemate around, drinking fine and chomping down her hay and pellets.
Any suggestions please- I've been back and forth to the vets with my bladder piggy and I hope they don't think I'm fussing over nothing. Thanks all!

I would have her checked over, including for ovarian cysts or other internal issues as any pressure on the guts can also cause digestive problems. If problems persist, you might want to ask for a faecal lab test.

Keep her off fresh veg but try fibreplex; it can help in these cases, depending on what is the cause.
'Poo soup' with absolutely freshly laid poos from her companion that you soak in a little water then syringe the water may also help if it is a digestive problem. Sit the healthy piggy on towel outside the cage and feed it a little fresh grass or a favourite treat; that usually results in some perfect poos!) Freshly made poo soup is more effective than normal probiotics and mimics natural behaviour.

I would request a hands on examination for her, my girl Treacle went in yesterday for soft poops and weight loss with normal appetite and our vet discovered a mass the size of a golf ball in her abdomen! She will be going in to have it removed on Monday, if I didn't keep track of her weight i'd hate to think how she would have ended up.

Not saying thats definitely what it is, but it's a good idea to have her checked over :)
