Hi all,
Panda Pig has diarrhoea. He'd been acting a bit strangely (wheeking a lot) and when I got him out today his bottom was covered in wet poo. He HAD to have a bath :( Obviously I will take him to the vet in the morning, and I have not given their usual fresh veg - they have hay, but is there anything else I can do to help him? He is eating hay and is quite lively.
Thanks,
Sue

Hi! Please make sure that you stay off any fresh veg and top him up with syringe feed and especially (in case of dehydration); giving plenty of fibre is the best you can do right now. Is the poo just soft, formless or are you dealing with outright diarrhea?
it is good that you are having him seen. In the two first cases, I hope that the poos firm up again within a day or two. Please wait at least 24-48 hours after the poos have firmed up again until you slowly and carefully re-introduce veg.

Thanks. He'd been sitting in it so had squashed it into a pancake of poo. There were a couple of fresh pellets at the top, so not completely runny but larger and much softer than usual.
I have some Critical Care so will try him with that later. Thanks again :)

We saw the vet this afternoon. Panda has had a thorough check up, his temperature is normal, his teeth are 'very good', and his poos are still soft but not as bad as yesterday. The vet thinks he will be OK but I'm to continue with the 'no veg' and syringing for a few days and monitor the poo.
I did give Pedro some fresh veg to eat, while I was out with Panda, and he was very pleased to get it :). Tomorrow I am going to fix up a way to separate the Piggy Palace into two, so that they can have different food but still see each other.

I'm dealing with the same issue right now! Healing thoughts to your little Panda

I would give critical care and extra fluid and fiberplex. I had to take a piggy back three times with a wet bum to get antibiotics and the conservative measures did not work.
I have one piggy prone to wet poohs due to surgery they are pat like and don't smell to bad. She responds well to basic care. The piggy who responded to antibiotics had very bad sick smelling poop and did not respond at all. I would not separate them. I am unsure on my thoughts on stopping all veg. I sometimes think they might need whatever pushed through and they are used to it. I would not give fruit or dark greens. I guess it depends on what is needing to be tried to get your piggy well ASAP. Good luck.

I have my fingers crossed that everything sorts itelf soon, it's awful when they are under the weather :(

Hi how is he today ?
It may takeep a long time to sort this poo problem , l know only to we'll , my avert ar name . Gizzy had realy bad sloppy poos for many weeks , but
The above protocols, his poo fermed up and he lived to a right old age

Thank you all for your advice. It's good news so far, his poos are firming up.
Yes, I have been giving Pedro his veg while I've got Panda out for his Critical Care. Panda doesn't care for being wrapped up in a towel for syringe feeding but he does like the taste of the food. He is also eating plenty of hay. Hopefully he can start to have a little veg by this weekend (or should that be WHEEEEKend?)

Re-introduced veg gradually and his poos are now fine but he was still squeaking and hunching up so the vet did some more tests (I managed to get a urine sample :) ) and he now has a water infection. So he's on Baytril, and some Metacam and I'm giving him cranberry juice too. Hopefully this will sort him out. He is still eating well.
