Saw this on Facebook today, it would be a good idea for the UK as well. I wonder if single pigs living next to other pigs is allowed? Sometimes that's the only way!
This is such a good idea! I hate it when you see someone with a single guinea pig and when you ask why their reply is 'why not?'. Like... for a start... where are they getting these guinea pigs from? and why is that place not telling them its better to have two? Their not hard creatures to look after so there's no excuse to have just one really, if you have room for one...you have room for two.
I think that even if it doesn't become illegal it should be questioned by the person selling the guinea pig that they should be kept in two's. I just don't think enough people are educated about guinea pigs welfare needs yano? In fact sadly I think a lot of kids these days don't know where most animals come from or what sort of social surroundings they should live in.
I know guinea pigs are supposedly herd animals but I have had quite a few that were far happier on their own and some that positively went downhill with depression if another piggy shared their quarters. I even saw a documentary on tv where there were some lone guineas in the wild that only sought out company when they wanted to mate!
Pity it's not against the law to put guinea pigs in stupid hats!
Only good thing about P@H is that they MADE me get two, I originally only wanted one as I had a really bad experience with two when I was little. I'm so glad I got them both though, I can't imagine just having one of them!
Ive got two single boars now after bonding didn't work and I'm in a pickle with what to do as I know the importance of piggies being in pairs or more, sadly I can not keep adding piggies so I'm trying to keep these two boars near each other which is causing its own issues...... they both sit almost sadly calling to the other but as soon as they safely meet nose to nose one nasty goes for the other
I wish I could talk guinea pig it would help me no end ha ha.
Piggies should not be on their own, it's a difficult one as if this law works just when buying piggies than that fab. The problem comes when you need to find your bereaved or outcast piggy a friend.
Great law! It's very thoughtful! I think the same can be said for most animals. I've had tonnes of animals growing up but always hated leaving them alone. Nobody wants to sit about all day lonely! Would drive you nuts!
