Dieing piggies

Hi every one I have a couple of breeding pigs that my daughter does and uses the money to pay for her pony,
We have come across a problem, we have lost a few pigs, we have found them laying lifeless on there side gasping for breath, we lost a few older one like this now I’m losing new borns and one that are a few weeks old, at that point I went out and brought new hutches, different bedding and moved them to a total new building, now I only moved my heavily pregnant girls and they had there babies and we lost them over 48hrs I lost one out of one litter and two out of another,
This is heart breaking, ovs I did all bio precautions of cleaning ect

What has the vet you have surely seen about the issue said?

Please have a post-mortem done on one of the piggies. You are either dealing with environmental/food poisoning or otherwise with one of the very rare but highly infectious illnesses that occasionally hit groups and wipe half or most of them out; there are some real nasties out there. It is any caring guinea pig owner's nightmare; I am very sorry about it.
Unfortunately, it requires a proper lab examination to get to the bottom of it. All we can do is guess as much as you do, and that won't help with the problem. This is VERY serious and not a case for DIY treatment. It will also likely not be cheap; but it is necessary.

Until you know what you are dealing with, have been able to stop it with the correct medication and for a 3-6 months quarantining period afterwards (you will have discuss the particulars with your vet), you won't be able to sell on any guinea pigs that could be carriers.

Nope that’s lovely the last one we took to the vet, for post Mortem it came back clear, that’s y I’m desperate for help, sorry that I haven’t adhered to the breeding rules, but I don’t class my self as a breeder, my daughter has them as her pets and we had a litter for her friends

Thank you for clarifying that. Over which time frame have these deaths happened and how many piggies have you so far lost?

Are all dead piggies related, sharing the same ancestors so a genetic defect like one that can cause a sudden heart attack or a stroke etc. can over time be passed on from both parents and become stronger and hit earlier?

PS: Our rules cover breeding explicitly anybody who is putting two guinea pigs together with the intent of getting offspring, by the way.
