It feels like forever ago since Toby was a little Tyke so I'm afraid of ruining little Heidi's Diet. She's roughtly eight/nine weeks old. I'm introducing her to lots of food while she's young (I know from Toby that introducing them to some foods later on they may not take to! ....fussy turd :P) But am afraid of upsetting her tummy (I've only so far given her some spinach and cucumer guinea pig excel ((supa)) & hay) Which leads me to my next question I've heard of some dodgey Hay and what to know the good kinds if there are any well known ones. Maybe that's how Toby caught them stinkin mites? If he can that way. So anyone any thoughts on this?

I use dust free day www.dustfreehay.co.uk - it is a little pricey, but for small amount of piggies like us its quite good value really as it does last a long time. it smells LOVELY and the piggies love it. my piggies are also allergic to the dust in shop bought ones too, this is another reason i use it.

Alot of people use shop bought hay but i dont really like any of it to be hoenst. it says dust extracted, but still at the bottom there is so much dust its horrible, and my piggies didnt erally like it. it doesnt seem as fresh either.

My baby piggy has the same as my adult piggy, i do not give them a special diet, i nevr have with any of my piggys over the years!

Great! She's just so tiny I really can't remember Toby being that small lol

Hiya, from them being born ive given mine a good variety of veg.. one of my sows came to me pregnant and she has always a had a good variety of veg so they used to eat what she did at a few days old aswell as their mums milk, but by 3 weeks old they were taken away and ate exactly what my adults did just not as much.

Thanks that great ^_^ Just Tobys meal basically but bitesized lol

I agree about the diet being the same. The babies born here last thursday already nibble at any/everything. I can't personally justify the price of dust free hay since I also have bunnies and get through a lot. I don't really like the P&H hay and nor do my rabbits so I get mine from a local farm shop as long as you can see it's not too dusty and it smells sweet it's fine. As for the mites Toby could not get these from hay, it's lice that come in the hay sometimes:)

I use the hay from www.dustfreehay.co.uk and have always found it brilliant! I actually think it is good value. I get the extra large bale which is equivalent to 7-8 smaller bales for £25 (I think!) and it lasts 11 guineas for bedding and eating about 2 and a half months. I get the American timothy hay from there as well and 2 boxes are £23 and I only put this in their hayracks. That lasts me 4 months, so I think itis very good value, fresh, excellent delivery time and best of all the piggies love it!

I might try there actually indulge a little. Bit remember I'm just a poor student :P
