I picked up two new guineas last night after a break of about 10years. Boy have their feeding plans got more detailed! I know thats a good thing and i've been reading up about it all on here so feel pretty prepared :)

Now my new girls have had a tough start and have a few scabs and flakey bits on them (probably bites from the older sow they came in to the rescue with) and they have been treated for mites. Are there any green foods or suppliments that would help their skin? Their fur is a bit dull too. Not sure what they were fed prior to the rescue getting them. Any suggestions? They cleared a bowl of burgess excell with oregano and blackcurrent, and a handful of chopped celery and cauliflower last night so we're off to a good start. Just thought i'd check before a shopping trip later. Thanks

I would recommend having a look at this chart: http://www.guineapigcages.com/food/Veggie-and-Fruit-Charts.pdf

Good fur and general wellbeing come from a balanced diet. I feed one cup of vegetables to each pig every day as per the above chart. Always ensure you include one vegetable/herb that is high in vitamin C (eg. bell pepper, cilantro) in each meal, and limit fruits as those are loaded with sugar and can cause obesity. I would also steer clear of cauliflower as it's not very nutritionally beneficial and can cause gas.

You could also try Gorgeous Guineas for their lotions & they're also very good with advice is you contact them.

Be careful introducing veg if they are not used to it, could upset their stomachs. If they aren't used to it you will have to introduce it gradually

They had cauliflower as thats one of the veg the rescue fed. Will take things slowly with them. Shall also try the gorgeous guineas shampoos and see if that helps. Thanks
