When Charlie and Kenny were weighed at the vets last week, Charlie came in at almost 1.5kg and Kenny at just under 1kg. I always thought they were both 2 but she gave an estimate of 18 months for Kenny and just said Charlie was an adult (I don't know if she has any idea what she's talking about though, she said she would check his teeth to see how old he was. How can she know anything from that if they're constantly growing?). Is it normal for adult guinea pigs to be different weights like this or is Kenny still growing? Is it possible to tell ages from weights? I can see the difference in size when they're together, Charlie is huge compared to Kenny.

I have 2 brothers, both are completely healthy yet one is 1.2kg whilst the other is a little guy at just 950g. Lots of things can affect weight, in my little lad's case I suspect the bloat and bladder stone he experienced in quick succession at just under a year old was a determining factor, but even before that he was always much smaller than his brother. Then I have a father and son pairing, they are chunky boys at around 1.4kg each yet they aren't fat, just big, robust piggies. Healthy weights for pigs can be anything from 850g to 1.5kg, it all depends on the individual. Hope this helps :)

Yes thank you. Charlie isn't fat either, he's just a bigger build and being longhaired, I think it makes him look big. (:
