3 1/2 year old Dizzy never stopped trying to teach her ca 12 months old toy boy Llewelyn proper manners, but she also cuddled him all the time; Llewi simply worshipped her. She made it very clear to me that he was hers and not mine - and that she wasn't into sharing! After she'd passed away aged 5, Llewelyn became the patriarch around which I built my Tribe.
Llewelyn's successor Hywel was younger than most of his ladies, but he was dominant enough to take over the top spot from the start (which is the reason why I'd chosen him). He had to learn "on the job" that that didn't just mean all the perks but also some major responsibilities!
Young Terfel was just so delighted when he met my two formidable middle aged cataract ladies that he was popcorning all the time! It took a couple of seasons until he figured out from which end to do the job... But over time, he has grown into a master diplomat who was pivotal in bonding a very bristly Mali into his group. I loved how protective he was of Taffy and how he showed Mali what was acceptable behviour and what not without it ever ending in a fight.
5 year old widower Bryn Oscar, who came to live with my frail and older ladies, is no longer so much into the chasing, but he loves to mug his wives at dinner time and snuggle up with them at night. He is certainly enjoying a new lease of life!
I find the ever changing group dynamics fascinating, as sows come up through the ranks (or not) in my big group depending on their personality, ambition and clout.
