Hi

Rose has been v poorly with upset digestion, she's had excellent vets advice from Ellie at Matlock, and is now recovering. But, I have some queries about what to do now, and would like reassurance / comments that my plan to support her recovery is OK as I'm really worried she might have a relapse:

Short summary of illness follows, I'll put more detail below my questions so you don't have too much to read!

Digestive problems - cow pat poops, mucky bum, gassy, stopped eating everything completely. looked v miserable and hunched. Now eating hay, poops normal this morning, on cisapride, loxicom, metoclopramide, still syringe feeding.

My plan is:
- keep off veg till sunday morning (48 hrs from normal poops) - start with red pepper (small amount), if OK add in another veg each day - spinach then lettuce then cucumber then green beans. Is this OK or too slow? Any advise about order of re-introduction, thought pepper might be least gassy/watery?
- keep on cisapride and metoclopramide till eating veg and OK, unless I run out of cisapride before then (doesn't seem gassy any more)
- slowly reduce loxicom - currently on 0.8 ml x 2 a day, if OK tomorrow reduce to 0.5ml x 2 a day and in a few days 0.5ml x 1 a day (yesterday had occasional mini squeak when pooping but all good today)
- syringe feeding - weigh each morning and if lost weight increase amount critical care, if same weight reduce cc - her weight has dropped a lot :(
- book an online consultation with Ellie for Monday about long-term diet, weight, possible prevention of another issue (the earliest I can book one for).

Thanks for reading so far and for any advise / reassurance you might have!

More detail if you want it:
Rose has had this issue a few years ago, was put on 0.1ml cisapride as preventative and was on it for 1 year with no problems, we took her off it in Sep and has been fine till now.
She has lost a lot of weight - was 1100g in sept, 840g last week. I haven't been weighing her weekly so don't know how much she's lost due to this bout, and how much she's lost before then (I've learnt my lesson here and will weigh both at least weekly from now on).
Sat 1st July - problem started - noticed poopy bum, picking at hay, took off veg and monitored.
Mon 3rd - improved, gave a trial bean.
Tues 4th - worse, cowpats and picking at food again, started on cisapride (0.1ml x 3 a day), critical care.
Thurs 6th - much worse, not eating at all, obv discomfort, critical care upped to 60ml and loxicom 0.5 ml x 2, stomach massages.
Fri 7th - vet appointment, given painkiller injection + injection of gut stimulant, continued on cisapride (0.1 ml x 3 a day), added metoclopramide 0.5ml x 2 a day, upped loxicom to 0.8ml x 2 a day, stomach massages, floor time, critical care daily (40 - 70ml) since.
Eating hay by Sun, poops slowly improved all this week and amount of hay eaten increased, finally normal poops today and gas seems to have stopped. I checked with Ellie when to stop meds and she said by pets app "when she's eating and pooping normally".

Thanks for reading!

I’m sorry to hear she has been unwell.

When reintroducing veg I would actually start with herbs. Coriander is a safe daily herb. Herbs tend to be milder on the digestion.
Introduce a new veg every few days and then increase the amount of veg if she remains well.
Ensure you don’t feed spinach much. It is high calcium veg and only be fed in small amounts and no more than once a week.

It’s hay intake which is obviously the most important part so keeping with meds as her vet says so but until her hay intake is normal and she is maintaining her weight herself.

Thanks, do you think I should reduce / completely cut out the criticial care now so I can see if she's maintaining weight herself?

She doesn't usually have coriander, she has always been an incredibly fussy pig and doesn't like most things I try her on, even things other pigs love! I could get some in to try again. Thanks for advice about spinach, I did know that as she has cystitis so I do limit it, but it's her absolute favourite.
