Hey all!

As some of you know, we bought 3 boars last week :) everything going fine #fingers crossed it stays that way :)
I'm having this huge dilemma over cages/hutches/housing! :/ they all can't stay in a 4/5 foot cage it isn't fair as food bowls etc take so much room. They are let out for a good roam around my kids room at least once a day. I'm stuck for what cage I can actually get that would be the best solution for the space issue. The big c&c cages are ideal but with having dogs I don't trust the safety of not having a top, even if I put them high up this wouldn't stop a dog, yeah one of my dogs can jump on kitchen worktops :/ with ease! Looked at chicken coops but with the bad weather about to hit not ideal. Only option is a 2 tier cage, I know piggies aren't climbers unlike say rabbits. Opinion? Solutions? 10ft cages? I can't actually find any for the life of me :(

there are some 160cm cages out there, will have a google tomorrow for you and if I can find them will pop links on here. Hopefully someone may be able to suggest something

You can get a top for the c & c cages on their website.Think it adds about £30 to the price though x

Thanks I would really appreciated it. I'm bugging myself over it currently, can imagine my google history Don't mind a nice hutch sort of thing but I do worry about chewing. The older boars been renamed (7 months) he's not patch anymore it's fang! So now I have fang, speedy & Archie.

If you want something cheaper this 160cm cage looks good Rabbit 160cm LARGE Indoor Rabbit & Guinea Pig Cage

I have a 154 X 78 cage on a stand.you can get 160 cages from cages world and poss zooplus.I am very lucky, I have a spare room across the hall that mine are in.It has a baby gate on to stop the dogs getting in.You can always buy a couple tables and join two cages together.

not sure on the sturdiness, imagine 23kg dog front paws on pushing her weight :/ against the lid. We currently have the boys on top of some ikea draws, have another foot or two space if I clean that area up properly (kids stereo) otherwise it's raising a C&c cage up at least 3/4foot off the floor. We have a baby gate at the top of the stairs - only one of my dogs are allowed up stairs (he's poses no harm he's 13 yrs old) but on the odd chance which does happen when kids haven't shut the gate properly other 2 hounds race up there :/ for that split second of them being upstairs who knows what they could do :( biggest fear hence why I didn't want small furies, but their here now not that they are any trouble.

Oh she gorgeous! I imagine a Big prey drive in that crossing though!

Thanks she a beauty :) when we adopted her we pretty much had no history on her :( she shared her space with (kitchen/landing) with two male rats they were on the kitchen worktop in a cage, she had no interest in them. As rosies got older an we are more intune with her personality, traits etc I don't trust her around small furies. It's not fair on her or the piggy boys to even give a glimpse of each other (she's clever) Rosie knows something is up stairs. I had a staffie/Jack Russell years back, she was best mates with my rabbit :) never give chase or anything.
What I'm finding online with reviews of cages is 2 tiers are okay for piggies but I'm not fully convinced. One cage which is at a local pet store is one floor looks huge but add houses, food bowls ... Wonder how much room they will have after that? Think they do a 5ft 2 tier cage online would this be the best option? Ground floor would be food/play area 1floor bedding area.

I wouldn't put mine in a double cage as it could be toppled easier, also the ramp will be to steep

Just thought we had 2 single cages on stands, we used to put them end to end, then took the ends off on both then they have an double cage. Even so it's limited for space. For toys & food bowls.

Make sure you put plastic things on the join as well, then the dogs can't get there paws through.

My thinking, also they might not want to climb (could make adjustments to ramp) rock & hard place. Outside unless its summer is a no go for me either :(

Home and Roost do a nice selection of cages (wooden hutches). I have just ordered a five by two foot one for the boars I am adopting next month.

Some people on here have double story ones. You could always lift the ramp a bit at one end to make it less steep and put sides on it.

We bought a 2 storey cage but only 2 of the 5 piggies would go up the ladder. The entrance upstairs took too much room and the 2 neutered boars started fighting over the sows, so we covered up the hole and made it into 2 cages. Shame because we have limited space for a big cage and I was hoping running up and down would give them some extra exercise!

Unsure how the piggies would feel going up a ramp till I try them. Outside hutch would be 2 levels if I had one (will buy around Spring) I'm just in two minds think it's quite steep the ramp :s

It is a concern...as I said about our 2 storey cage, only 2 out of 5 piggies would go up the ramp and the hole at the top was really big, so they had problems going round the edge.

This ramp is pretty steep, plus it has very open sides so could be quite dangerous.
To be honest I don't think it is appropriate for piggies and can't really see an easy way to make it safe.

But my 4 have lived in a wooden two story hutch and loved the ramp.
They are now in a C&C and cope fine with that ramp too, so I think if it isn't too steep then it is perfectly possible for piggies to use ramps.

Yeah it's a royal pain! Right size cage but I'm not keen on the ramp either. Need to find a 5ft, without a steep ramp. Wish I could do the C&c :( would solve everything.

You could make the ramp less steep (by lifting it up at one with a brick or something) and put sides onto it to make it easier to use, oh and put some kind of grip on like carpet. There are some good youtube vids about this.

Got this pic yesterday from a local pet store, 5ft by 2 1/2 ft wide, would change the wire 1st floor... Any good? It's a lot of money an out of budget ..

had this cage from cages world and had problems. The bottom bowed so there was a gap and the wheels didn't fit the legs.Have had to buy catches to keep bottom tight. Not mad on the shelf as my mad boar would jump over.Wanted to Take it out but only thing keeping bottom tight at the moment. The supplier said they would take it back but I needed it so they took thirty quid off it instead.Great sturdy cage for the 99 quid I ended up paying for it but would have been stuck boyfriend wasn't handy. It is the 154X78 version
