Good evening all,
After a bit of advice. I took my toddler to a farm earlier and during our trip round I popped into the guinea pig pen and had a little look. Unfortunately there were about 20 piggies in each 2 x 2 cage, some days old, some pregnant sows and also mixed in with rabbits...just totally cramped. In one particular cage there was a sow with a baby behind her which was evidently dead. I rustled my sons food and they all came to the front of the cage bar this poor girl. I went outside to find staff but couldn't see any so I went back in and she was giving birth to another. When it came out she just looked exhausted and flopped onto her side showing no interest in the baby which I suspect is what happened with the first. I couldn't watch it anymore so I opened the cage, pulled the sac open and tried to get some life from the baby but there was no luck. Eventually a member of staff came in and removed the dead babies from this cage and another and made sure the sow had finished then hurried us out. I left and felt so guilty! I asked if they sold them and she said they did. Would it be stupid if I went back tomorrow and saved the poor girlie? I know one isn't going to help the situation but I felt so bad leaving without them!
I've had a look online tonight about them and apparently there's been a previous prosecution but Rspca won't get involved as its down to the council, who also don't seem to want to be involved!
Do I go down tomorrow and have a word?
The girl supervising them all was about 14. I asked which ones they sold and at what age and all she said was "all of them, we just guess when they might be ready".
