OK my dilemma is this: I got 2 sows a couple of days before xmas as a gift and 2 weeks later one of them gave birth to 2 very cute babies (they are in my profile pic!).
They are now 2 weeks old, and today I took them to the pet shop that the sows came from to be sexed. The shop owner couldnt be 100% sure but was pretty sure that I have a baby sow and a baby boar.
When should I take the boar away from the girls?
Should I have him neutered, if so when can I have this done?
If it's going to be months away, should I get another neutered boar to keep him company?
If I keep him segregated will I ever be able to put him back in with the girls?/
I really don't want to get him rehomed, I have become quite attached to all of my little piggies.:...

The boar needs to be removed at 3 weeks of age, think they neutering age depends on how quickly he develops. If you have the space I personally would have him done and seperate for the required time, then put him back with his family. Would be a lovely group. Plus I probably wouldn't be able to get rid as like you I'd become attached :)

The little boy has a maximum of 21 days with mum before you need to take him away but if he start strutting his stuff you may need to remove him earlier. Please get them rechecked by someone who KNOWS what they are doing - vet or nurse or rescue

If you decide to get him neutered and remember not all go well and will have to be done by a vet and I suggest you do lots and lots and then more research before you pick the best vet for the job! Check who your local rescues use? The cheapest quote is not the best necessarily - check what anaesthesia. (There is a thread somewhere about neutering) You will then need to keep him separate from any girls for a further 6 weeks. Aslong as he can see and chat to the girls he will survive on his own till he can be neutered from 4 months depending on how well developed he is. You could get another boar to keep him company and not get him neutered? Please get any further piggies from rescue and you are unlikely to end up with pregnancies! Make sure that your cages are big enough for that many piggies once they are full grown 8 sq ft for 2, 10.5 for 3 and 13 for 4 which means you will need very very large hutches or c&c cage! (these are the absolute minimum you should provide)

I think he would have to be around 6 months old before he could be neutered, then 6 weeks after that before he is clear. x

i would personally get him sexed again by the vet they usually do this free of charge, as the petshop i got marble from sold me a girl and a boy even though they said it was two boys so be carefull, i would have him neutured then put him back with his family i dont think you can have this done until he is about 6 months old, but you can keep him in a cage next to his family so he can chat to them and he will have some company. hope this helps
