Hello,

This is my first post so I'm not sure if I am doing this right! I was hoping for an explanation about my two piggies (both females, 3 months) dirty bottoms! I visited a vet recently with some health concerns I have as I'm a very neurotic owner and most of my health concerns were dismissed as "normal", however I have been unable to find anything about my piggies dirty bottoms online!

I noticed about a week ago that one of my piggies had a "snotty" bum so I wiped it and watched her overnight to make sure she was eating/drinking/pooping normally (she was) but the next day when I lifted her I noticed a crusty yellow ring around her bottom, it passed after a few hours and I haven't seen it since. However, this morning I have noticed the same crusty yellow ring on my other piggy. I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this and whether I should be concerned?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

We used to have a guinea pig who got a dirty bottom if she had more than a very tiny amount of dandelion leaf. I guess something about it didn't agree with her. I can't now remember whether the same thing used to happen with lettuce, I've got a feeling it may possibly have done. Might be worth trying to see if there's any connection between what your piggies eat, and the dirty bottom problem appearing?
