Yeah, so this isnt the nicest thread in the world but I need some advise please

Celery is now at an age, where is struggling to clean herself. She just sits in the same place and goes to the toilet and then doesnt move. It means her bum, stomach, legs and a bit of her back is covered. We have to then wash her a every other day which she hates. Luckily, she is know an indoor piggie, so we can keep an eye

Is this normal to happen for a piggie in her twilight years? She seems happy and is eating and everything just her hygine isn't great
 
Mmm not moving around much is not necessarily a sign of old age, my 7 year old was very active right up until she passed away. Have you had her checked by a vet? How old is she? I am thinking possibly a urine infection or something, so she needs to see a vet. Have you been weighing her to check her weight & is she eating ok?
 
She was at the vets the other week who gave her the once over and was fine. She has never been an "active" piggie. She takes after her mum too much :P

She moves about fine when she does wonder about. Gets her veggie fine, gets her water fine, licks my hand and then the sofa fine. She seems well, just old.
 
It is not at all uncommon for an older arthritic piggy with stiff joints not to be able to clean herself. some older piggies also devlop a leaky bladder; my Cariad was one of them. Like humans, piggies age in different ways. I have got a seven year old that is perfectly fine and still going strong while others were developing ageing problems sooner.

Please keep her on absorbent vetbed or good quality microfleece, which you change daily. That way she is staying as dry as possible, so she won't get as yucky. That will also help prevent urine scald. Use hand warm water to give her a little bum wash daily and sudocrem to treat any sore areas.

Please have her given a check by your vet as to arthritis or urinary/bladder/kidney issues to make sure that you are not missing anything obvious. You can support her with vegetarian glucosamine.
 
Where can I get a vet bed from?
We are currently changing her bedding daily for her. We use luke warm water on her bum and a guinea pig shampoo, which is so mild. It washes it all off.

Her toilets are fine. She goes without any issues and they seem all ok. I will get her checked out
 
vet bed is a type of thick fleece.The wee wicks straight through to whatever absorbent layer you put underneath it.What do you bed her on at the moment?You can get it online or pets at home.Slso really warm for winter
 
Definitely get her checked for arthritis, and have at least pain relief prescribed. It did wonders for my arthritic boy!
