Hello

I have two 11 month old boys, one had a botty problem!

He always has a stinky (and i mean incredibly stinky) dirty bum

It always has undigested dirty hay sticking out of it and it STINKS, his bum is often wet too - he does pass formed poos and he is not malnurished at all.

I wont get him out when friends come round and i wont touch his bum without a cloth anymore

anyone have any ideas?

Sarah

I took him to the vet this morning to see if it was impaction and he said it wasnt, just that his scent glands were working overtime!

anyone any ideas what i can clean him with, his bum is so greasy - i guess from the scent gland secretions, but it doesnt wipe off with just water.

You can clean boars bums with swarfega, which you can buy from halfords or a similar shop, this removes grease from mechanics hands, so will do the same for your boar.
Unfortunately boys can have a very strong smell, one of mine doesn't but the other stinks!

i've heard of that but he is really dirty up inside his bum (the vet kinda turned his bum inside out) but even if you part his bum a little bit it is really dirty, is that stuff ok up inside his bum a little bit?

You cant put swarfega into his anal sack but you can clean it v.gently with a cotton bud & olive oil. I don't mean right inside but near the edges where you can see & remove any debris (ie hay etc) which may have deposited in there :)

NO! Its literally just for scent glands. its NOT ok to put anything up his bum/inside him that way unless you're a fully qualified vet

mine get like this, i use swafega on their scent gland and then around the bum i have wet kitchen roll with their shampoo and gently clean around it.

Yep I would trim the fur around his bum a bit, use the swarfega on the outside area around his bum, but for the inside area (the truly stinky but nothing like rabbits I can promise you :)>>>) you can use a cotton wool bud very gently in warm water to clean a bit inside. The pig will not like this :( and don't try and shove it right up :))
