I know guinea pig's hair can change color, but I've never heard of entire markings disappearing, reappearing, and disappearing again! Willow had a gray-ish brown patch on her nose with a white strip down the middle. It's vanished before and then came back. Now it's gone again. Here's a few pictures so you can see what I'm talking about.

Here she is with the marking on her nose

and here is a more recent picture of her without it

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?

I know that Claire W's Erin had a mismarked himi patch on her nose when she rehomed her; that has pretty much disappeared.

I'm glad Willow's not the only one like that :)

I don't know whether to consider her a mismarked himi or a PEW :{ :))

Is it seasonal? I'm not totally sure how guinea pigs moult (which is something I really should know!) but when I had a white rabbit with grey ears and nose his nose went almost white in the summer but REALLY dark when he got his winter coat through.

I have no idea, but whatever it is is a very neat party trick she has! :D

Maybe it is seasonal. The first picture was taken in the winter and the second was taken a few days ago. :)

Funniest thing, I was just looking through pictures of her and noticed that she sometimes looks like a himi and sometimes a PEW lol Willow... the pig of many colors :)

Is she Himalayan? The colour markings (points) she does have seem to carry that look, it's one of the few colour genetics that can disappear, as they're not born with the dark points to start with?

himalayan breed markings come and go depending on temperature. Rabbits, guinea pigs, even cats (although himalayan cats are unbelievably ugly! --> http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/PTGPOD/377026a.jpg)

It's all to do with temperature, seasons and camouflage. The colder they are, the darker their points go and vice versa

Thanks you :) That all makes sense :)

I do think Willow is a mismarked himi as she has gray-ish pink feet and a few gray patches on her ears.
