Junior Guinea Pig
Hello,
My wee Lily pig has been back and forward to vet since we got her three weeks ago, due to a scruffy, scabby ear and then last week because it got worse and she also had a loose tuft of hair on her back. The place that I got her has been paying the bill.
The first visit the vet gave her an injection for mites but I took her back last Thurs as she had a clumped patch of hair on her back and her ear wasn't any better. When I went to pick her up I was told that the vet had ordered cream but it wouldn't be in until the Tues. I wasn't happy that poor Lily had nothing to make her feel better and she also by then had a bald bleeding patch on her back where the vet pulled the hair out. I thought it looked like a fungal infection but the vet didn't seem to understand had offered nothing else. She eventually gave me some ointment. A friend of a friend gave me some malaseb and I gave her a wee bath on Sunday.
Her back looks so much better after the bath but her ear is now starting to look scruffy again. I took Lily back to the place I got her yesterday as she was due another injection and I was to pick up the cream. But when I went to pick her up the man said that the vet had told him I could just carry on with a spot on treatment, and he handed me a packet of shop spot on.
What I'm wondering is if he did actually take her into the vet? Would a vet had said this? The vet was closed by then so I couldn't check and they hadn't given him the cream.
As I'm sure the vet isn't very piggie savy I am taking Lily to my dog's vet today (who has a big guinea pig section on his website as he owns them himself). Hopefully we'll finally find out exactly what it wrong with the wee soul. We have two piggies at the moment but our new piggie Millie is on her own in the dining room and Lily is on her own in my daughter's bedroom. We are doing everything we can to make sure that Millie doesn't get what Lily has and I feel so sorry for them being on there own when I could trying to bond them.
Sorry, long gargled rant now over
