Disheartened :(

Had my little piggie Domino for 3 weeks now. He seemed to be settling in well and bonding was going great. He is still a little skittish but will take veggies from me at lap time. Got him out a while ago for a cuddle and he bit me really hard! The first time he has ever done this and the first time I have been bitten by a piggie 8...

I'm now gutted that all the bonding and hard work have been lost and now I'm back to square one 8...

Aww I'm sure it's not all in vain, perhaps he was just a bit uncomfortable. One of my girls did that when I tried to check her teeth (after reading about awful dental problems here I wanted to check!). I'm sure he'll be wheeking his head off at you again soon.

Does he have a friend?

Sorry ot hear youve had a nasty nip but fortunately I don;t think you;re back to square one. If he is young it maybe that you got him at an "off" time as he still isn;t used to you and the routine.

Also, sometimes this type of behaviour is indicative of a developing mite problem which is not unusal in young guineas that have been recently rehomed with a change in environment etc

(In older more friendlier guineas a sudden nip when being handled could also signify another underlying health issue involving pain such as a stone - but I don;t think this is an issue in your case)

Has he been quarantined/treated for mites? How old is he?

He is four months old. Has had prevention treatment for mites and was quarantined for a while before being introduced to my other piggie

In that case it sounds like an unfortunate one-off........some young pigs do get a bit angsty with cuddles and need to mature more (and get used to you) before they're completely relaxed.......

Don;t give up! I'm sure he will come round.

hi he might of been feeling a bit of colour also piggy don,t like been handled to many times , our gus used to bit when he was little but we showed him who was boss as one day he sunk is teeth into wifes finger and drew blood , i told the wife to show him what he has done , and believe it or not he sulked and i am sure he felt guilty after that tha was the last time he bit after that he just mouthed our fingers don,t give up keep bonding with him or her and don,t show ** scared oh our gus turned out to be the most loving guinea pig lived to 8 years old R,I,P
