Disney seems to be wet constantly, I have sat watching her in the run today and her pee looks normal and poops are also fine. She does not wheek in pain when pooing or weeing, what can it be?

She is a bit smelly considering I only bathed her on Sunday, could it be a reaction to the shampoo? I used Lice and Easy from Gorgeous Guineas.

Any help/advice gratefully received ?/

It sounds like the beginnings of a UTI - what I call the smelly pees stage. At the beginning, a piggy does not necessarily wheek from pain and it does not need to pee blood in order to have it. I usually catch cystitis at the stage you are at!

Ask your vet for septrin 0.5 ml, metacam or rimadyl as anti-inflammatory/painkiller and avipro plus probiotic (does not contain extra calcium).

Make sure that you get unsweetened cranberry juice and try to syrigne as much as you can in as much sittings as possible. If necessary, dilute with water - the important thing is to flush out the bladder.

You may want to feed a load of dandelions (they are diuretic) in order to help with flushing out as much of the bacteria as possible, as long as you balance that by giving plenty of fluid.

Be sure to change your bedding often, so it can't be transferred to the other piggies.

Thanks, luckily I booked a vets appointment for 8.40am tomorrow, we are going away for the weekend so my dads in charge! but will give him instructions.

Thanks again

I'm going through the same thing with Stripes at the moment, he's always wet and seems to have to have a bum wash a couple of times a week. We've switched to vet bed which I change everyday to keep him as dry as possible.
It was definately the start of a UTI for him he's on Septrin at the moment.

I have several pigs here that tend to sit in their own pee, no matter how often i clean them or what bedding I use. It's not necessarily a UTI but just as well to get her checked out

I should add Stripes has always been a mucky pig, if there's one patch of wee in the entire house he'll sit in it. Some are just dirtier than others! I do wonder if it's to do with his upbringing. I don't know what his home was like when he was a baby as he was 2 1/2 when we adopted him but I can imagine if your house is not cleaned out as much as it should be and you've always sat in your own mess then that's the norm. Spike is a much cleaner pig, so was Gizmo and we had them since babies and gave them a litter tray from very early on. When it was just Spike and Gizmo they were really good and always used the same spot. Now Spike lives with Stripes, Stripes' bad habits have rubbed off and the whole place has become a toilet! Boys!

This seemed to start after I washed her on Sunday, I'm starting to wonder whether I rinsed the shampoo off properly, my dad and I gave her a good wash round the bum area last night and she has a few sore patches but that could be the pee :(

You can ease the sore patches with bepanthen salve from the pharmacy.

I hope that Disney is better?
