we have had a new guinea pig for nearly 2 weeks now. she was fine for the first 2 days but then we noticed she wasn't moving her front leg. we looked this up and found it could be vitamin c deficiency, so we have given her oranges and other fruit and veg and she seemed to perk up, but today she is falling over all the time as though she has no balance control, do you have any idea what this could be?
by the way we had 2 of them and the other is fine, also the ill 1 doesnt seem to be growing!

Hi there, not sure what that could be. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along soon. balance? maybe an ear infection? you should get your piggy to the vets asap xx

Hi!

This sounds serious, please make sure that you see a vet ASAP!

PS: We have advice on good and balanced diets on here.

i am taking her to the vets in the morning but i was pretty woried and was hoping someone would know wha was causing this!

ive got no advice i just hope she gets better soon!

How old is she?
It could be almost anything causing the problem, which is a totally useless answer!
I would, however, be very surprised if it were a Vitamin C deficiency.
She may have an ear infection, a broken leg, bumblefoot, a pulled muscle, a stroke, a parasitic infection, a splinter in her foot, anything you can think of.
Basically look for a simple answer first, the list above contains possible causes, not certainties.
Don't panic.

Have you got an appointment? How is your piggy?

First of all, welcome to the forum. Is there any news this evening on your piggie?

My first question was also "how old is she". There's something definitely not right there, but her symptoms aren't clear enough for us to really speculate - she does need someone skilled and experienced with guinea pig medical complaints to examine her.

It may be worth familiarising yourself with a good guinea pig diet too, as fresh fruit and veg should be a part of the daily menu.
